Montgomery County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Montgomery County Jail is located in Crawfordsville, Indiana. It opened in 1882 and was the first rotary jail constructed in the United States. Eighteen rotary jails were constructed in the US and three remain, but Montgomery County’s is the only one still currently operational. The current jail staff includes Jail Commander/Captain Travis King, Asst. Jail Commander Christian Brown, Matron Connie Dale, and Jail Sergeants Inez Weimer and Cole Thomas.

The Montgomery County Jail inmate roster may be searched or browsed online. It is hosted by JailTracker and provides inmates’ identifying and demographic details, cases, charges, arrest information, classification, and mugshot.

How to Send Mail or Package

Personal mail to inmates must include the sender’s full name and physical return address. The following are prohibited in inmate mail: currency, stickers, unknown substances, discoloration, or crayon, adhesives, powders, glitter, mechanized or battery-operated devices, clippings from newspapers or magazines, and books or book pages. Mail should be addressed as follows:

Funds may be added to inmates’ accounts in person, online, or by phone. The kiosk in the jail lobby accepts cash or a Visa or MasterCard. Visa or Mastercard may also be used to add funds by calling Access Corrections at (866)345-1884 or going to their website. Funds for weekly commissary should be deposited into inmates’ accounts by midnight on Sunday.

Visitation Hours

Onsite inmate visits are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each lasts 15 minutes. Visitors must have a valid ID and early check-in is not allowed. Only one minor may visit with an approved adult visitor. Cell phones aren’t allowed in the visitation area. Onsite visitation is held Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM, Saturdays from 9-11 AM, 2:30 – 4 PM and 6:30 PM-9 PM, and Sundays from 9 – 11AM and 6:30 PM – 9 PM.

Remote visits are also available and may be scheduled and purchased via Securus Technologies.Visitors must create a Securus account on their website to access remote visitation.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office hosts a Top 10 Most Wanted page on their website. It provides the public with the names, birthdates, charges, and mugshots of the county’s most wanted offenders. They also have a Facebook page, where news and other information is intermittently posted.

The county jail is operated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Ryan Needham is the Sheriff. The staff also includes Major Matt McCarty, Captain Jeremy Hughes, 3 sergeants and 18 deputies.

In accordance with the Indiana Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the public may request copies of records kept by any government agency, such as police reports taken by the Sheriff’s Office. Requests should be in writing, provide the requestor’s name and contact information, and describe the records sought in detail. A sample Indiana FOIA request is available at the link below. Requests may be submitted in person or by mail, email, or fax. Copies of records may incur a printing charge of $.10 per printed page.
