Monroe County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Monroe County Jail is located in Bloomington, Indiana and operated by the local Sheriff’s Office. The Monroe County Correctional Center is the Office’s largest division. The staff includes 69 full-time and 8 part-time employees, including the chaplain, kitchen staff, and administration. The Jail Commander is Kyle Gibbons, the Asst. Jail Commander is Matthew Demmings, and the Family & Inmate Liaison is Officer A. Hibbert. The staff also coordinates a large number of citizen volunteers who provide inmate services.

How to Send Mail or Package

Personal mail to inmates is scanned and then viewed electronically. All mail should include the sender’s name and return address on the envelope and be no larger than 8 ½ x 11 inches and no thicker than light card stock. Prohibited items include: any form of currency, stickers and address labels, homemade and/or musical cards, non-white envelopes or paper, paintings, drawings in colored ink, marker, crayon, or glitter, raised decorations, tracing paper, and pages from coloring books.

Visitation Hours

All visits with Monroe County inmates are conducted by video and may be held onsite or remotely. Visits are unlimited. Up to three visitors, including children, may attend a single visit. Each child must present a valid birth certificate and social security card. Each adult must present 2 forms of ID, including one government-issued photo ID. Visitors should check in 15 minutes prior to the visit’s scheduled start time. The only items allowed in the onsite visitation area are: keys, wallets, and one baby blanket, bottle, and diaper per child. Visits may be scheduled through Inmate Sales’ website or by calling 866-340-7879.

The Monroe County Correctional Center is operated by the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff is Ruben Marté. The staff also includes Chief Deputy Phil Parker, Major Russell Brumett, and Captain of Operations Randy Jacobs. The administrative office is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 4pm.

The public may obtain records kept by any government agency, such as police reports created by the Sheriff’s Office. Monroe County provides an Access to Public Records Act form online. The form requires the requestor’s name and contact information, a description of the records being requested, and a preferred delivery method (mail or pick-up). In-county residents must pick up their copies of the records. Requests may be submitted in person at the Sheriff’s Office lobby between 8am and 4pm Monday through Friday or by email or fax.
