The Indiana State Prison opened in Indiana in 1822. The Indiana Department of Corrections (DOC) runs the Indiana State Prison. The prison is designated as a level four maximum security prison. Indiana State Prison houses individuals who are incarcerated with long sentences and individuals convicted of violent crimes.

Visitation Hours:
ATTORNEY VISITS: 8:00am – 4:00pm, daily. Reservations must be made prior to weekend visits, by the Thursday before the visit.
GENERAL POPULATION: 11:00am – 5:15pm, Monday-Friday with sign-in by 4:15pm. Weekends and holidays, 7:00am-3:00pm, with sign-in by 1:15pm.
ADMINISTRATIVE NON-CONTACT: 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday-Friday only, excluding holidays, with sign-in by 3:00pm.
RESTRICTED STATUS HOUSING: 8:00am-1:00pm, Monday-Friday only, excluding holidays.
X-ROW and PROTECTIVE CUSTODY: 7:00am – 3:30pm, daily.
Cell phones are not permitted in the visiting area at the Indiana State Prison. Every visitor will have to pass through the Call Sense detector before their visit. Visitors that are minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All visitors must present a valid, government issued ID card to be permitted to visit an inmate. Visitors must be signed in for a minimum of 1 hour and 15 minutes prior to the time that visitation hours end.
