Madison County Jail Information and Inmate Search

The Madison County Jail is located in Anderson, Indiana and operated by the local Sheriff’s Office. It was built in 1984 and has a capacity for 207 offenders. The jail is staffed by 45 officers. Michelle Sumpter is the Jail Commander and oversees the Extraditions Office.

The jail roster is available online and maintained by Inmate Inquiry. The searchable roster includes inmates’ names, identifying details, ID number, scheduled release date, booking history, bond and court details, and mugshots.

How to Send Mail or Package

Personal mail to inmates is sent to a third-party provider that scans mail and delivers the scans to inmates electronically. Incoming mail should be no larger than 8.5×11” and on paper no thicker than light cardstock. Envelopes and paper must be white. Greeting cards are not accepted. Photographs are the only enclosures accepted and must not be provocative, Polaroids, or internet print-outs. All mail must contain the sender’s full name and return address. Personal mail to inmates should be addressed as follows:

Money may be added to inmates commissary accounts online through Access Corrections, which requires an account, or in-person using the kiosk in the jail lobby.

Visitation Hours

Inmate visitation is conducted by video and can be held onsite or remotely, from any internet-enabled device with a camera. Visitation should be scheduled 2 hours in advance. Onsite visitation is held daily from 9am-11am and 1pm-4pm. Remote visitation is held daily from 9am-11am, 1pm-4pm, and 7pm-11pm. Visits last 20 minutes. Onsite visits are free and remote visits cost $0.20 per minute. Visitors must have a valid ID and a registered visitation account. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an account-holding adult. Visits may be scheduled online. For assistance with visitation, call Combined Public Communications at (877) 998-567.

Madison County Public Records Information

The public may request copies of records kept by any government office, such as police reports taken by the Sheriff’s Office, in accordance with the Indiana Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). FOIA requests should be written, describe the records requested, and provide the name and contact information of the person requesting the records. The Records Division of the Madison County Sheriff Department provides a pdf request form online. Requests may be delivered in person or by fax or email during business hours (8am-3:30pm). A fee for printed copies of records may apply (typically $.10 per printed page). The Records Office accepts cash, money order, cashier’s checks, or credit/debit cards. There is a $1.75 service fee to pay by card and ID is required. Payments may also be accepted online or over the phone.
